A birthday bash !

Today, I was totally shack after coming back from another enjoyable but tiring day at scouts. I fell on the chair to take a nice long rest only to be interrupted by my father to go to my grandparents’ house as it was my grandmother’s 80th Chinese birthday. How could I have forgotten? Reluctantly, I pulled my self together and somehow managed to arrive at my grandparents’ house at the other side of Singapore.

My grandmother was overjoyed to see us by giving us hugs. All my relatives were also present and the feast began. It was a wide spread of food for my grandmother as she leads a simple life. She keeps saying in Cantonese that there is too much food. We began munching on pizza, satay, fishball, porridge, fried rice, ice cream, jelly, curry chicken, etc, along with bottles of coke, sprite, Pepsi, coffee, tea, etc.

Of course a birthday without a birthday cake wouldn’t be as fun. So came out the ice cream cake with lots of chocolate fudge and eight large candles on top. Sang her the birthday song and took turns to give her red packets. The occasion ended in a high note and we soon parted on our ways.

It was a day filled with activities and I bet I am going to sleep like a log later.

Good night and signing off,

Gerard Ong
