A birthday bash !

Today, I was totally shack after coming back from another enjoyable but tiring day at scouts. I fell on the chair to take a nice long rest only to be interrupted by my father to go to my grandparents’ house as it was my grandmother’s 80th Chinese birthday. How could I have forgotten? Reluctantly, I pulled my self together and somehow managed to arrive at my grandparents’ house at the other side of Singapore.

My grandmother was overjoyed to see us by giving us hugs. All my relatives were also present and the feast began. It was a wide spread of food for my grandmother as she leads a simple life. She keeps saying in Cantonese that there is too much food. We began munching on pizza, satay, fishball, porridge, fried rice, ice cream, jelly, curry chicken, etc, along with bottles of coke, sprite, Pepsi, coffee, tea, etc.

Of course a birthday without a birthday cake wouldn’t be as fun. So came out the ice cream cake with lots of chocolate fudge and eight large candles on top. Sang her the birthday song and took turns to give her red packets. The occasion ended in a high note and we soon parted on our ways.

It was a day filled with activities and I bet I am going to sleep like a log later.

Good night and signing off,

An extraordinary Thursday !

As usual the sun rises, I go to school. Lessons are being taught. This is my daily life on a Thursday in school...but all that changed in a midst of an engaging mathematics lesson.

A sudden “Woooooo!” to me burst into my mind. My calculations were being flung away. It was a few seconds later that my mind began to function and read the sound as the fire alarm. Quite a number of people were actually glad that it rang so the lesson would stop. I beg to differ. After learning that the fire was on the third floor, the class quickly lined up outside and proceeded to the field.

Students were perhaps more comfortable lining by class in the new two tone field. The sun was beating down on us. Everything was smooth and we were sent back to class in no time.

Mr. Chia’s countless reminders did not go to the drain; the school had done a great job by evacuating the school in only 18 minutes. It was an all time record since Mr. Chia came to Victoria School. Certainly it could be improved. Such exercises are useful to prepare ourselves for an emergency.

That is what made my Thursday extraordinary.

A great time in my CCA today

Today, I wore my full scouts uniform to CCA in school.Having done that, the troop had uniform inspection first thing in the morning, and with physical training right after that. Next we had ice breaker games where the new secondary ones and us got to know each other better.

The climax of the meeting only came after that, where we went to do activities such as 'flying fox' and 'tree climbing'. The tower of the flying fox is made out of logs tired together just outside school but was safe as there were the same safety gears being used at the secondary one orientation camp. The ride down the flying fox was exhilarating and we all were made to crash into a man-made mud pile. After getting all dirty in mud, I felt that I was in-tune with nature and I had a time of my life.

I was dead tired by the time I went home as we had to pack up after all the fun. It was a great day and I hope that there will be more outdoor activities in future meetings.

Signing off,
